I started to notice My beetle wasn't thumping when I let go of the gear lever..
a few months ago when the engine was hot... ??  in any gear...
Now it doesn't thump into gear when its hot or cold...
only thing that has changed is the temperature... its getting warmer now...
usually over 20C during the day now...   was 2C to 15C before...
maybe it has something to do with the engine revs???
as when it was cold , say 10C or below , I used the manual choke when starting the engine
and drive out the garage...  and it used to really thump and spin the rear wheels..
and many times the engine stopped..
in the gravel driveway.. it would spin the rear wheels and accelerate...

so, after all these years.. My 68 Beetle is actually driving like it was when it was new..
