I'm taking apart my Ghia 1970 autostick and on the rear I found"Cofap HD" shock absorbers. I took them out and when I pressed the ends (replicate the action of absorbing a shock as if they were mounted), it went very easy inside all the way. It was way harder to pull them out.

Is it suppose to go in that easy, just by hand?

I found out the shocks are not all that expensive so I will replace them all. Now's the question: I read that Monroe has the softer cushier shocks? Looking at Matic Plus 31538 for front and MA-803 for rear.

Anyone has experience with Monroe? This brand is not offered on any of the VW parts and restoration websites - wondering why?
I'm not locked on this brand - open for any suggestion.

Thank you,
