Apologies SB001,  Sometimes a car company can get it wrong.  They never say that using LOW all the time will damage anything, its just because it is so low a gear they though it better to start off in Drive 1 or Drive 2...  Naturally using LOW to start off uses much more fuel than in D1 or D2...  So by recommending using LOW gear to start off would have lowered the "normal" MPG figure, which wouldn't have been good publicity...  Just My thoughts..
