Hi folks,

first posting and a problem....

Our 70 AS 1300 has the problem with leaking oil out of the trans from the 2 side plates. Beneath that there is a seal, which is larger than the "normal" IRS seal. Does anyone has the dimension of that seal ? Or the VW number. ( My Etos only shows "discontued")

Hi Lee,

we messured the seal. It as about 68 mm in diameter. The "normal" seal is 60 mm. Strange thing....

Hi
I cannot find the size of the seals and I cannot find My spare seals here. the seal number is 113 301 189f
I found the size of the original seals, they are 36 x 60 x 15mm wide.. Now if Yours if a different size
take Your seal to a bearing and seal shop and see if they can match it for You...
I have no idea why Your seal would be a different size... This is the rear axle seal that fits into the gearbox.. You will also need the plastic plugs that go on the end of the shafts..

cheers

RedRat I don't know if this is even possible but is there a chance your seals are actually for a Type II? The ONLY seals I can find that match your 68mm description are the ones for the Type II manual gearbox from 69-75. Those seals are 42 x 67 x 17.6mm, and part number 002301189C. Can you find a part number inscribed anywhere on your existing seals??

P.S. Here are all the output flange seals I could find from one of the most comprehensive sources here in the states:

I did send a private message [I think] about this seal, as I came across it by accident..
I believe  it was a type 2 VW driving shaft seal with the dimensions as was stated....  I came across it by accident whilst reading a VW Manual of some kind... which listed type 2 seals and their sizes....
now that is really odd??? how it came to be on a VW autostick gearbox.... [transaxle]

I suppose it wouldn't be THAT difficult to squeeze a Type 2 seal in there- I mean it's only 3.5mm larger around the circumference... it might also explain the leaking problem.

Hi guys,

problem solved !

There were some rubber gaskets in front of the seals !. After plying them out we found the "correct" seals and changed it.
