anyone know anywhere in British Columbia Canada where u can buy a fully automatic old beetle or a place that builds fully automatic transmissions that will work in old beetles in British Columbia Canada

              Type 3's had the full auto's, not beetles. And the transplant involves SERIOUS fabbing/cutting 'n' shutting. It can be done, but your wallet will burn like magnesium....

Semi Auto is an electrical/vacuum operated system essentially. Contact points in the gearstick activate a solenoid which allows stored vacuum to operate a servo unit that actuates the clutch. This does away with the need for a clutch pedal per se, but you still have to select the gears.

A torque converter is involved in the whole shebang, but reduced to the role of torque multiplier. One bonus is that the actual clutch plate lasts longer as the converter absorbs some of the shock loading of the clutch plate. 3 forward gears (2nd, 3rd & 4th from a manual box).

That explanation is ridiculously simplified but good enough I think for your questions!
