1971 Super Beetle Restoration
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:12:22 AM »
Hello, I am a new member. I am currently restoring a 1971 Super Beetle convertible with an autostick. I am finishing up the wiring at this point and it will all be downhill from there (I hope). What should I expect, if anything, when I start up the engine for the first time? It was completely rebuilt including a new case. All parts are stock. My main concern at this point are the six (6) the nuts I used to close the engine case. I didn't realize there were "case sealing" nuts (with the red plastic on the nuts). I used flat washers and regular nuts.  Will this be a big problem ? Will I be losing oil through these holes in the case? I applied a sealer to all of the mating surfaces on both sides of the case before I put them together. The engine is already in the car. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :?:
