Having a hard time installing the shifter again

Hey everyone, finally got the shift bushing installed, but I can't seem to get the shifter to sit right in the cup. When I shift gears, it keeps popping up out of the cup. Can anyone tell me what position the transmission needs to be pulled or pushed from for Neutral? Maybe I'm installing it in gear or something. Thanks if you can help! This is just the last step I need to get her back on the road again!
