Hey, I found this forum a while back to get some info on the autostick I recently purchased (1968).

I went to replace my contact switch in my shifter, but I realized when I pulled the shifter off with the 2 13mm bolts, the entire shift rod shifted down and to the left and is now stuck there. When trying to re-install, I cannot line the lockout plate correctly, shifting it causes the stick to pop out of the cup. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating. Not sure if I'll be able to even install the shifter again if it's not centered.

Thanks if any of you can help!

Hello, did you ever get this figured out??
It almost sounds to me like your shift rod bushing has broken, I'm not sure how else that rod could move the way you describe! It would definitely explain why it is no longer centered. You can also check the shift rod coupling in the back of the transmission tunnel under the hatch. Make sure you still have that tensioner spring - sometimes it works loose there.
