Hi
I have a replacement seal for inside the tube behind the clutch assembly..
113 311 113A is the part number..
called a transmission input shaft seal...

any idea how to replace it easily???

I wish I knew how old the seal was...
many of the clutch parts are dated 1989-1990...
so, maybe the seal isn't that old...
there was no oil on the clutch or pressure plate..

Lee,
If there is no sign of leakage, don't do it!!
It's recessed pretty deep and the input shaft will interfere with whatever pick or prying thing you use. Also, on the anecdotal front, someone found that their's was put in with some case sealer, which turned into glue. They tried to pry it out, and pulled out the centre section leaving the OD trapped in the housing bore.
I'd only attempt this with the input shaft/gear cluster removed.

Send Steve (Crasher) a PM and ask him whether he did his with input shaft in place or removed.

Maybe find Henry Spicak's (or someone like him..Volksbahn maybe?) number and give him a ring?
Or Laura's mechanic? He seems to fettle the PBB's Gearbox quite well.

Hi Sean,
What do You think of drilling and screwing in 3 long self tapper screws
at equal places on the seal
and use 3 large washers or a flat piece of steel made to fit...

and slowly screw the seal out..

I'm thinking that seeing the clutch parts have 1989 -1990 on them
I'm pretty sure the seals would have been replaced too...
hence the orange TQ seal....

For those that don't know, the seal is inside the orange shaft
in approx 2 inches...
The seal is approx 1/2 inch thick with  a lip at eaither end..
part number 113 311 113A
inner lip is the oil seal lip and the outer lip is a dirt/dust seal ...

I'm thinking Now Sean , that its worth the risk of Not replacing it
unless i have a leak once its installed in the car...
