Title: ATF/Vacuum tank questions
Post by: DaMunk on 10 May 2010, 04:23
I have it in my mind that vacuum tanks and ATF tanks are not swappable with the same from different years/models, but I can's seem to find where I might have read it.  Is my mind playing tricks on me?  I'm on the hunt for replacements.

This is what I took off my machine

ATF tank is pitted and flaking around the seam

the vacuum tank is a tale of 2 sides

including a small hole  :'(

DaMunk,
They certainly changed the ATF tank for FI engines. Maybe the bracketry changed with the bumper bar mods needed for '74 (?) models.

I would cut the ATF tank neck off and save the rubber grommet, dipstick etc etc.

I see these a lot of both bits in the classifieds on www.thesamba.com . Try and get them with bracketry etc

Your Vac tank looks like it will spend the remainder of it's life as a flower-pot or a chromed conversation piece ;D.

Volkenstein

Hiya Munk,

X2 with Sean.

To the best of my knowledge vacuum reservoir tanks and ATF reservoir tanks are the same items 1968 through 1974.  They were changed for the 1975 production year and continued with the revised style until production of AutoSticks ceased in 1976.
