No sense in buying an entire starter when a brush replacement will make it work just like new. Standard Motor Products GB288 Starter Brush kit includes four brushes for complete replacement. These are not the same as the brushes for the standard transmission. They can be purchased on ebay most any time. I got the kit delivered to my door for $11 US. You have to be willing to unsolder the old ones and solder the new ones into place. Not with a little solder gun but at least a standard soldering iron. Get help if you need to. A real money saver for those willing to do the back yard mechanic thing.
thanks for that info
have been looking for some for a while

I bought a set of these from BILL and have received them
Not sure who You bought Yours Off..
The first one I tried didn't answer any emails etc...
so I found Bill and bought From Him.. and exchanged emails etc.. Paid with Paypal
thinking of buying another set for My spare starter motor

My starter has started to "stick". Twice now I have had to jack the car up (put on jack stands!) and climb under and whack the starter with a hammer. Then it works fine for awhile.
I know that this starter is unique to the auto-stick, so this fall, when I have the bug in to have the clutch plate replaced, I am going to have them also rebuild the starter.
But thanks for the info
Hi
I'm not really sure what causes this..
maybe just lack of lubrication on the shaft that spins out and engages the ring gear...
all the ones I have seen are not lubricated
but some lithium based moly grease should make it work OK..
it could also have something to do with the spring inside that retracts it..
these starters are much better than the manual starters...
having a bearing on the end instead of using a bush in the housing...
I have a spare starter I am going to pull apart and grease the insides and replace the brushes if they are badly worn
cheers
