Ever since I got my AS Bug I've wanted to get my hands on the decal VW had their dealers place in the rear window of AutoStick equipped Bugs. As you all know, in the introductory year of 1968 VW identified their AS cars with a metal decklid emblem. Nice looking but too expensive to continue in production after '68. So, starting with the 1969 production year Volkswagen had their dealers install a VW supplied decal. This decal, which simply read "automatic stick shift" was made from the "water-slide" technology available at the time. Unfortunately the heat and radiation from the sun usually "removed" these decals after a couple of years. Basically, the decals disappeared and have not been available for the past 35 years.
I did a bunch of research and decided to replicate these decals. However, instead of using water-slide technology I went with vinyl static cling. Three reasons for that............static cling makes installation easier, the vinyl will stand proud in your rear window for a long time, and water slide technology has gone the way of the dinosaur. These decals are absolutely correct for any AS equipped Type 1 (yes, Ghias too!) from 1969 through 1972. They are appropriate for ANY AutoStick. They really make the car stand out. I have been running the decal on my car for about a month now and I have already received more than a few comments and questions.
