Title: What is the blue-red cable for?
Post by: jovanybg on 07 November 2017, 06:09
I've snapped that picture from under the back seat.
I am wondering what these cables are for? The brown one should be the cable from the shifter contacts to the vacuum valve in the back.
I was wandering what the re-blue cable should be? - and where to connect it to?!

That's the wire from the temp switch on the transmission to the ATF warning light on the dash. That should be a double connector there, with another blue/ red wire coming out the other side going up the main wiring harness to the front of the car. Like this:

Have you had your main wiring harness replaced at some point? That would explain the missing wire, as new main harnesses do not include that wire- you have to run one yourself.

Yes, the harness has been replaced some time back.
I am missing the ATF cable to the front of the car... That will be some project! I've never dragged cable through the car cavities... Time for a try, I guess... :)

It's a good warning light to have but IMO not essential- I've been driving my autostick for 30 years and never once had that light come on.
Just to keep it original though, a while back I had to replace my main harness, I bought a good used one out of a 68, of course it did not have the ATF wire and the wires are packed WAY too tight inside the sheathing to allow you to pull a wire through. So I actually ended up slicing the sheathing lengthwise, shoving the additional wire for the ATF in, and then electric taping the whole thing back up.  :D
I contacted this company awhile back:

Asked them how much they would charge to make me a new main harness loom with the ATF and rear defrost wires added, if I remember right I think they quoted me around $300 or so. If I had the cash I'd have them make me a whole new one since some of my terminal connections are shoddy as well... but money is tight at the moment...
