Title: Well, it finally happened. My gear shifter nylon bushing wore out!!
Post by: 68autobug on 20 May 2023, 20:31
I had just pulled up at My Grand Son's place for His 21st Birthday Party, when I couldn't find reverse gear, then I couldn't find a forward gear  to select. I left My Beetle there in His driveway not realizing that I couldn't select any gear, and the gear shifter could go round and round.  So, when I went to go home later I found that I couldn't select reverse , but I kept trying until I found it. Then when I went to find D1 or D2 all I found was LOW Gear. So, I accelerated and found I was always in LOW Gear, not good for a highway run of 35 kilometers. So, I tried to select D2 , around 4-5 times, and each time it was in LOW gear. I couldn't tell what gear I was in until I accelerated each time. Until the last time , I found I was in D2, so I kept driving until I arrived home.  I took the gear shifter off the tunnel, and all I can see is Blackish Moly Grease so I am going to push the shaft out the front and renew the nylon bushing as seen on U tube.
