I have a few questions but I will ask them in the technical section.

There is not much I know about my bug right now. I am a begginer and this is my first car.
All I know is it is currently running and drives ok. I wish I had a ton Of money though cause I could do so many fun things with this car ;D

Hiya why,

I read the description of the car.  Some comments...............

1.  The brakes are not at all hard to bleed and adjust.  We can give you some helpful tips on that job if you'd like.  But be prepared for the possibility of broken parts or other parts that may need to be replaced.  This is often the case with braking systems that have not been attended to in quite a while (even if the linings have been replaced!)

2.  The horn is usually a pretty easy fix also.  Therre are some excellent online resources for VW horn troubleshooting.

3.  The flasher relay could be a problem.  That will depend on whether you have a nine-pin flasher relay or a four-pin flasher relay.  For your reference this is the four-pin relay a 215C.............

The 215C was introduced midway through the 69 production year.  It is very common (used in Busses and Ghias also), easily found and easily replaced.  The earlier nine-pin flasher relay is so difficult to locate that there are now plans online for building your own relay!

So.......determine which relay you have and then proceed from there.

Looks like you got a very good deal.  Nice little Bug!

Hi Mike,

that is the relay I use when rewiring beetles...
it is in the circuit diagram that I use...
I think Mine originally had a round flasher unit..
I have a couple of them as spares...

the main distinction between a VW flasher unit and the standard
ones used in many 60s and 70 cars
is - the VW flasher lamp in the speedo flashes when the outside lamps are
in the Off cycle....

Normal ones all flash at the same time

If I may, I would like to reopen this thread.  I notice in this post it mentions something about plans to build your own 9 pin relay.  I think I might have this flasher relay and it is starting to "buzz" instead of flash the lights.

So while researching this problem, I saw this mention.  Anyone know where or if these plans still exist?
