Title: when buying a VW...
Post by: vdubnewbie on 01 June 2007, 17:53
What questions should I ask and what should I look for when buying an auto stick? I'll be test driving a '71 Super this weekend and I just wanted to know how to make sure I'm not getting screwed over. Thanks for any and all help!

For autostick specifically, make sure it shifts smoothly into all four drive ranges (R, L, 1, & 2) when sitting still.  You shouldn't get any more bump than in a normal automatic.  If it bangs into gear, either something isn't adjusted right or installed wrong.  That banging will eventually lead to trouble if it isn't fixed.  Also make sure it isn't leaking any fluids from the trans.
