Hiya All,
With VWAR back up and running, I can't help but notice that one of our most regular contibutors is absent. What's become of Lee Noonan? Anybody have an update on Lee?
haven`t seen him on aussieveedubbers lately either :(
:D
Hi Mike & Paul,
Well, I've finally made it....
apologies for the delay...
and i have been Under My beetle twice today..
Once while it was parked on the street.. !!
and neither time it would start...
I have problems with the two gearbox switches,
they keep coming loose...
do to the way I taped them up...
to stop water entering the rubber boots...
I also found that the gearlever / control valve doesn't work if the switch
on the LHS is loose....
If the switch on the RHS is loose, only the starter motor won't go...
cheers

[PS... its Good to be missed Mike.....]
Hiya Lee,
Good to have you back in the fold.
Why are your switches coming loose? Explain please. This has me head scratching.
By the way, that bit of info regarding the loose switch and the electrical signal to the control valve is very interesting. I hadn't even considered that.
Hi Mike,
When I rewired the beetle, I used all new wiring, and I've found that if
I tape up all the wires and connections...
something always goes wrong, well not ALL the time...
I pushed the two switches into place, plus their rubber boots..
then I should have left it....
but I taped all the wires and the rubber boot...
now the tape is actually pulling the switch plugs off...
I have finally untaped the switch on the RHS...
the LHS one is harder to get at...
My other blunder was to have a wire going from the wiring loom on the RHS of the gearbox
to the loom on the LHS of the gearbox...
this wire goes over the accelerator cable tube...
so, many times, when I pressed the accelerator, the cable tube moved and one of the switch plugs disconnected...
and the starter motor didn't work...
so, all the above problems were manmade... by Me... lol... :D :D :'( :-[
so, relax Mike, these things most probably will NOT happen to you...
the plugs never actually came off, they just moved inside the rubber boot
which was covered with pvc tape...
cheers

Hi Mike,
well, You wouldn't believe it..
All My electrical problems have seemed to have disappeared
since I installed a New 460AMP Battery.
When I started the engine before, My Radio and VHF transceiver would always
go off, when I turned the key...
this no longer happens...
although the neutral start switch is still being disconnected [very occasionally]
when I press the accelerator down while turning the key.
so I start the engine without depressing the accelerator.
as I mentioned before, My wires go from the RHS to the LHS
and they are cable tied to the accelerattor bowden type tube between chassis and engine.
