Hi, I'm working on a friends ' 73 and want to make sure it has the right carburator onn it. Where should the vacume come off for the control valve? It looks diffrent than the 70 set up I have. Thanks Rob
RobT,
34 Pict 3 or 34 Pict 4. It should (if it is bone stock) have a DVDA distributor on it.
Facing the engine with decklid open - Vac advance comes from a spigot on the LHS side of carby which is pointing at the left hand fender.
Vac retard comes from a spigot facing you, on the LHS of the dime sized plug on the carb. The CV feed comes from a spigot facing you on the RHS of the dime sized plug on the carb.
There are numerous piccies in posts, I think the most recent is in the thread started by KG. He has a H30/31 which a close relative of a 34 Pict.

Hiya Rob,
A little more information on that carburetor for a 73 AS................
Indeed, it would be a Solex 34PICT3. However, not all Solex 34PICT3s were made for use on an AutoStick. Sean mentions above the right hand vacuum spigot for the control valve hookup. That particular spigot was not installed in the 34PICT3s going into manual tranny cars. And you'll not find it on any of the 34PICT3 Bocar replacements.
The correct OEM carburetor for you will, of course, have that right hand spigot. IT will also have one of two flange numbers. Either 412-1 (federal car) or 343-4 (California only car).
Do know that any of the old Solexes (and any of the new Bocars) can be converted into an AutoStick suitable carburetor. The conversion doesn't take a lot of mechanical experience (it's basically just drilling a hole) and it's pretty easy.
Hi,
Thanks for the info. I don't think he has the right carb on it then. I don't think it has the vacume port on the right side.
