Hello all! Not a problem really, just a wonderin'. Had to drive to work at 18degrees the other day. Fast start, no stall, and went right into gear Has anyone else experienced slow clutch engage when cold and car has been running fo 15 minutes or so? Give the accelerator a tap and it'll go right into gear. Kinda strange.
This is Only a wild guess....
When you rev the engine the vacuum increases in the small hose going from the carburetor to the control valve
another thing it could be, many people say that mineral oil in the gearbox
is thick when you start the engine in cold weather and it can be hard to engage
the gears... so thinner oil is used even ATF is used in some gearboxes.
I have synthetic oil in My gearbox but I don't know if it changes faster or not...
not over $100 worth anyway...lol
so, I wouldn't use it again...
We only get to around -4C in early morning during cold winters..
cheers

Yes, I was guessing it might be the cold gearbox. Kinda figured that with the choke doing it's thing the engine is revving higher, producing more vacuum to the servo. It's not as if it would warm up very much, therfore sluggish when the RPM's drop after engine warms. Ahh, the personalities of our cars ::)
Hey there. Still doing the same thing. Odd, when I first start car all is good. It's not untill the car has been running for a few minutes that the shifting gets weird. Does that for 10 minutes or so and then everything works perfectly once the engine has warmed. Someone told me it sounds like a cracked head, does this sound right to anyone else? The other sympton is that I have to wiggle the accelerator a bit during that 10 minute period in order to get the car to get up and go. Once warmed up all is smooth and works just like it should. A few months ago I had to ditch the float from my new Brosol carb, now using the float from my old crappy carb, anyone think that might be causing this problem?
Doesn't really sound like a cracked head...
could be a fuel problem...
I'd check in the bowl of that carburetor again...
do You have a fuel filter under the gas tank??
could also be the breather in Your gas tank is blocked??
or the filter built into the bottom of the tank is slightly blocked...??
