Title: Replacement Engine Tins for a Dual Port
Post by: Rick on 04 June 2009, 21:51
I'm finally on the put together stage for my 71 Vert AS engine(1600 Dual Port). The original engine shielding is a little rusted and worn. Any ideas where I can buy new/replacement engine tinware. I'm looking for good quality stuff (no chrome) as original. I can almost smell the exhaust fumes coming from GRETA !!!

Hiya Rick,

Quite honestly the best route to go is to visit your local VW salvage yard and get original German engine tin.  The aftermarket stuff (all nice and painted shiny black) is the pitts.  Lousy quality and worse, it does not fit properly.  The original stuff you find in a boneyard will have to be cleaned, painted, and maybe tweaked a bit but it will be ever so much better than the aftermarket stuff.

By the way........since this is the proper forum for such a request, I took the liberty of removing this same thread from the Tech Forum.
