Title: AS wiring help!!!!
Post by: Rick on 17 August 2009, 23:16

:)It's Rick from NJ again!, I finally got my AS transmission back ( rebuilt with new clutch) from Joe at EVW. They actually hand delivered it to my house!! What service. Well this AM I decided to install it. I labeled all the wires for the engine compartment. However didn't do it for the trans. I figured there were only a few and you would have to be pretty stupid not to figure what went where! We'll here I am again. I have a 1971 Vert.  The trans bolted in perfectly and every thing went smoothly. However on the wiring I'm stumped. On the starter side of the trans (passenger side) there are 2 switches one double pole switch forward and a single pole switch toward the rear. On the driver side, toward the very front is a 3 pole switch- which only goes on 1 way. My problem is that on the starter side I have two single individual wires- one with a red boot on the end, and the other with a white plastic female fitting on the end. I believe the single red boot wire goes to the single pole switch. However the other single wire ( red) is short and doesn't even reach the starter. This strange wire comes out of the harness for the 3 pole plug and is about 6 inches long. It doesn't reach anything!!! Is it possible that EVW could have switched up where my switches go into the case ( 3 switches single, double and triple pole ) I had to walk away from it because I was ready to start splicing wires. Every thing is original factory wired-no splices. And when I removed the wires they all had a place to go? Bentleys isn't to helful with their AS section. Thanks Guys!

After walking away for several hours I came back to my problem. I think I solved it. While putting the trans in (by myself) I pinched the one harness from the triple plug between the tail nose and body of the car.. It was snagged and therefore had no free movement. I slif the transmission out about 3/8 of an inch and freed the harness. This gave me about 12-188 inches of slack. I can now reach that red wire ( whit female plastic end ) to the starter where I'm 90% sure it attached. I'll hook up the battery and try started before installing the engine. Hopefully that should do it!

Hello there!

Been there...Done that! Yes pinching wires during an engine and/or tranny install is always an easy thing to do. And yes, it will send your brain a spinnin trying to finger out what the hell happened when stuff don't work right! Glad to see you most likely fingered it out.

Good luck!
