Title: Q&A time for the Volks who know
Post by: 68automaticFoVay on 22 September 2009, 05:38
Wheres a good spot to splice for the Amp meter? I was thinking under seat at the voltage regulator if you can help or tell me which spots best please?
(68) so not on gen. course all AS's have em there now don't they?

deck light for rear plate did it originally go thru a hole in firewall (Rear engine compartment?) the PO or even the shop who rebuilt my engine IDK but the License plate light wire is coming out the same hole my ATF filler tube is like WTF? now I gotta wait till I drop the engine and replace that tar paper felt stuff so I can wire it correctly if thats the spot?

last question "If the temp never drops to freezing in so call do I really need the thermostat?

hope not the PO took it off and I did not get it with car Same with some of the Heater duct work
I thought my engine had all the heater tubes in tact but am missing A Lot thank God it dont freeze at the beach or I'd be shivering my California Boy buns off lol

I sure as heck hope I don't need that thermo
thanx in advance for the responce's

Hi FoVay,

A thermostat for ambiant air? watch Dallas Raines :D on the News- a thermo for oil temp? I'd give that a 10-4 good buddy!
I would also like to know the answer to your 1st Q. Are you, like me, thinkin' 'bout running some VDO guages. My wishlist is : oil temp., oil pressure, & tach. mounted left of speedo in dash.

FoVay:

Don't know about the gauge mounting. I'd recommend running it from the ignition wire at the switch. It is battery direct. I think though any good + wire will work.

As for the thermostat... You need it, even in warm weather. It is absolutely necessary!

Hi

VW thermostats are very rare..
Vw technicians were told to take off thermostats at the first service and trash them
so, VW hasn't made them for many years... and not many beetles still have them..
so, most beetles in Australia are running no thermostats
and its about the same in the uS.. etc....
someone thought that beetle engines would overheat.... if they had a thermostat..
You can get Mexican type thermostats,,,,

just make sure there are no holes in the tinware..
so no hot air from under the engine gets into the engine compartment..

cheers
