Just wanted to say hello the the gang after my extended absence. Back in Feb I blew the motor I got it half assed fixed by the local Vw guru.... hard to believe that jerk has been in biz for 30 years and is one of the last guys standing in South Florida. I've driven it 800 miles since the rebuild which equals  a week and half back and forth to work and it's just not the same. Plus it's leaking oil and he had to put a sand seal kit in it because it was slinging oil out of the pulley. So the car as been sitting in my drive since then. I was forced to buy a new car with what was left in my saving :( My next step I guess is legal since i can't just piss away $1900.. On a good note I picked up a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi for cheap. I highly recommend anybody looking for a newer daily driver to check them out. Handles a lot like my Previous Audi. I'm looking forward to getting the Beetle back on the road for sure.

Hi
Sorry about the bad luck or bad mechanic.. Oil shouldn't come out past the oil slinger..  unless there isn't a breather for the crankcase [engine sump] If the normal Breather pipe is blocked off etc.. this does happen..
I agree the Kizhashi is a nice car but they are expensive in Australia.
I've found that usually any good Mechanics who know air cooled VW engines can make them leak proof.
Sand seals aren't common in Australia. the oil slinger does its job usually with good crankcase breathing.
oil vapour does come out though when You take Your foot off the throttle when engine is revving.. Highway etc..

cheers

Hey Lee good to hear from you. He did do a crankcase breather as well. it was still losing tons of oil from the slinger. Is it possible to damage them during a major overheat? I put in the points replacement module and had to tweeked a bit to much and melted a hole in #3 piston. It really does run great now. I'm just not happy that it's leaking oil from parts he "fixed" rear seal and pushrod tubes.

Hi again
The breather must be unblocked and open. I have a hole drilled in the alloy alternator stand and havr a rubber hose fitted
that goes up into the air cleaner and down to under the engine..
You don't have too much oil in the sump??
If the engine cannot breathe very easily then it just pumps oil out past the oil slinger...   I blocked my rubber hose once and oil even came out the dipstick...  so breathing is very important..  I don't  know if He modified the oil slinger???
maybe its not spinning???  as the oil is flung off the oil slinger [large flat washer]   which sits in a groove so  the  oil normally hits the sides of the groove around the slinger and falls back into the sumo
