My car for some reason will not idle.   I have removed the carb and cleaned it and still no go.   I even took the idle cutoff valve off and plugged the hole and it will start and rev fine but no idle.   Any thoughts?

Did you make sure to clean that idle jet under that plug?  The one on the right side ( if your looking at the carb in the car)
I didn't know there was a jet under that plug and ended up buying a new carb. Live and learn.
Now i can take that out with the carb in place. And every time the car sits idle for a few months I've got to clean it. Probably the ethanol fuel.

Also a symptom of a vacuum leak especially if it runs well above an idle. Just had the same problem a couple months ago. My intake manifold had cracked under the aluminum jacket. I found it with a can of starting fluid/spray. I set my fast idle cam so that it would run when I started it.

Sprayed it in the obvious places: manifold connections to heads, carb base, vacuum hose connections from the manifold to the vac control valve and the vac control valve intake. Nothing. Started to spray from the neck of the intake manifold and down along its length. Got near the edge of the aluminum jacket and the engine nearly quit with each spray there. The large crack was impossible to see until I removed the manifold (I posted pics on this site).

Moral of the story for me: A can of starting fluid can find any vacuum leak but more importantly you have to find it or it will eventually destroy your engine. That inrush of oxygen raises your CH temps through the ceiling.

I am not ruling out a vacuum leak.  I however have no way of keeping it running while I spray.   As far as the manifold is concerned it was replaced when the new carb was put on.   I am not saying that it can't be bad.    It just seems like my car has sat more than been driven because of all the issues I am having.  i am almost to the point of getting rid of it.

Hmm,
Pull of every hose and cap the former connections. If you have a bad vac leak causing your idle woes - that'll stop 'em. See if you have your idle issue then. Next up is what nypater has suggested. It's a nasty little jet. While you are at it...soak that carb and blow all the passages out. Is your idle screw OK, sealing ring still on it? And your volume (large) one too.
