Does anyone know what VW factory made all the Autosticks?

Hiya Lee.

Emden.  It was the final assembly facility for export.

Starting in 1966 (IIRC) all production of Bugs destined for export was located in this northern port city.  Emden was also the site of a nuclear reactor (electrical production - which also meant cheap power) which used the local water supply for cooling.  As it dumped the warmed water into the harbor it kept the Emden waterway ice-free all winter.  Consequently VW could export their product overseas all year long without having to ship anything internally by rail .  VW was always looking at the bottom line and this was a perfect solution for them.

There was no plant assigned solely to exclusive production of either the AutoStick or AS components.  Assembly wound up in Emden because 1.  Emden was the final assembly for export (where most AS equipped cars went) and 2. it was the northern transportation center.  Sub-assemblies and parts would come from various plants and sub contractors (like Fichtal & Sachs) in and around Germany for final assembly in Emden.  As far as I know, there was either no manufacturing or very little manufacturing of parts in Emden itself.

Since the Emden production line handled all overseas Bug production this is why we have the "does it have a clutch cable tube in the pan" question concerning cars from the early seventies.  Had there been a plant specializing in only AS production, this would not have happened.

I didn't really think there was a special AS facility, but maybe all Our cars were assembled at the same plant...
which it seems they were...  I don't know anything about the assembly plants etc

it would have been great if VW had put on the VIN plate what factory produced/assembled it...

I read the other day about a fellow who was restoring a split window type 2
and he saw where the undercoat underneath had paint drips there...
this meant that the vehicle was made in Hanover where they dipped VWs into undercoat.. [so He said]

All VWs fully made in Australia were also dipped - it was the largest [or maybe the only] Car dipping facility in the southern hemisphere.
