Hi
If You crunch going into reverse, it usually means your clutch needs adjusting.
just adjust it about 1/2 a turn.. check reverse .. then tighten the lock nut
on the adjuster..
I don't think the heater hose would make all that difference
to selecting reverse unless its sucking in completely..

Once you can get into reverse, You will usually have NO problems with the other gears..

Gear selections can also be caused by a dirty electrical point at the bottom end of your gearlever..

cheers

Update:

My vacuum line won't be in till Tuesday so today I stuck a piece of heater hose between the servo and control valve. Now she's shifting OK but I had to adjust the clutch arm/servo adjustment thing quite a bit to get it to go into reverse without grinding.

I find it odd that I would have to adjust at all just because I replaced a hose. Could the more flexible hose make this kind of adjustment necessary?

By the way: wife went out with the girls this afternoon so all I had to listen to was the radio. Life is good sometimes.

Thanks again Lee.

I had to adjust the clutch arm about 2 turns to get the car to shift. There's a little crunch if I shift quickly into reverse but none if I go a little slower. All other ranges can be selected with no problem.

When the correct line comes in on Tuesday I'll put it on and see if I can let the clutch arm out a little bit. I should have enough to replace the hose from the CV to the carb as well which is also heater hose.

At least I'm driving again. It was a sunny and mild day today. I had to run some errands and I tended to take the long way. The strange little Spy Car ran beautifully.

Hi
thats great news... nothing like driving them...
I had a crunch when ever I selected reverse but My Wife NEVER ever crunched...
I don't know whether she didn't push down too far or was slower in slecting???

I believe the gearshifter electric point was the problem.
adjusted and now worgs great...

Man, I dig the pictures. I adjusted my points in my shift lever on Saturday but I've been wondering what's below the mounting plate.
