Nice looking cars there Guys...

its really got Me baffled... Autosticks painted with Dulux and Berger ??
which would mean assembled in Australia...
but everything I've ever read says ALL autostick beetles were
made in Germany
and Fully imported to all countries outside Germany...

so, has anyone got an identification tag [aluminium plate]
that say it wasn't made in Germany ???
and has the correct chassis number  etc..??

Maybe some cars have been manuals CKD in Australia
and someone has changed them over to Autostick??

Here's our "project" - a '71 1302 or flat-screen Super Beetle:

The decklid and badge are wrong - it's not a 1302S (it has drums on the front, a 1300cc engine and no plastic dashboard) the decklid should have no vents and the badge should say "VW Automatic"

According to the ID plate it was manufactured in Germany in May 1971 (also evident with the smaller rear window) - UK registration was in 1972. As far as we can tell this was originally sold in Singapore (possibly to someone in the British Army stationed over there) and brought back to the UK. The speedo is in KPH which would be unusual on a UK market car as we usually have MPH. It has the ATF warning light so it does seem to be the original.

as it is now:

At the moment the car is completely in pieces and is going to get a full body off restoration. It may look solid in the pictures above (and on the whole it is) but it's a mess of bodges by PO's.

I have put together a blog which I will update with progress: http://www.funstuie.co.uk

Greetings From South Carolina (USA)!!!

I have a 1974 A/S. My Grandfather bought it new in 1974 and drove it off the local VW lot with only 72 miles on it. My "Papa" as I call him, drove it only locally . During my childhood, this Bug was all I ever wanted. My Papa would pick me up from school in it, and we would take local day trips in in because I loved riding in it.My Dad and uncle both learned how to drive in it when they were in high school, so it has been around a while. My Papa gave it to my uncle in 1997 to restore. My uncle never could find the time to work on it, therefore it sat in his driveway until last year. One day. I asked him how much he wanted for it, and his reply was "you know what, you can have it". So, I I got it for free. It just so happend my son was born maybe 2 months later so, once again that bug was put on the back burner. Maybe a month ago, I started working on it again and "got the fever" It has 38,000 original miles in it and is pretty good shape for the most part.My father-in-law owns an extermiator company and has tried his best to buy it from me, but its not going to happen. Since I have found this site, I have noticed that I am not the only one that has a love for the bug! Thanks for the site and the content that is placed on here. It has helped me more than you could ever know!I will keep updating on the progress and try to upload pictures as much as I can!!

Thanks Alex

Its a shame its been left so long in the open...
although if it was another brand of car it would have probably rusted away..

at least the mechanicals should be OK...

Here is your photo of your beetle..
how about some pics of the engine bay..?

cheers

Hi ALL!

Just re-registered to the new forum. I was away as long as my autostick was working fine!! Now it's troublesome again, but already found the fault, the stickshift contact point and wire need replacing, Phew, thought it was major!

Here are a few pics :

Starting off with when i bought the 1302s autostick in 2003 as a rat in GT Apple Green!

Used it as it was , everyday, for a whole year, luckily it held!! God i loved that car!

Still miss it in that unique guise! Oh so 70s! Used to use the car as a landmark for meeting people!!
Haha, that small steering wheel's kept me fit!!
Note the 13 inch wheels, 0 offset, 6inch wide, 185/70 rubber, it handled like on rails, not much difference between drive 1 & 2, though!

Here's a few other pics after restoration!
Back to original Marathon\Weltmeister Blue!
Kamei Spoiler, 2inch fibreglass oversize fendders and side skirts and M3 mirrors!

Hiya Zoo,

Nice looking car!

And Black is not one of the more common colors one sees these days.  There were three choices for interior colors with a Black exterior in 1968.  Which interior do you have?

I have a red interior for it.

I wanted to have a very euro style car, and to me black with red interior beetle is that.

Black is an amazing color but everything shows, my friend was helping me wax it today and it's a terrible color, you can see blemishes very easily compared to a lighter color. but i love it so much!
