VW Birth Certificate: How To

Thanks for the advice on the engine parts, I will talk to my parts guy and see what I can do about fixing it. The guy I'm buying the car from is not in to VWs at all, he does't understand or realy know how to take care of them, which is why he wants me to have it so bad, he knows I will take care of it.

Can you direct me to a book or anything where I can find the info you are refering to about the Kamann beetles? Can you also tell me if my car is suppose to have one Karmann badge on it or two? I would really like to find out more about my specific type of beetle, you are pulling up some very interesting facts and I would like to be able to show it to my friend who has a standard convertilbe bug, his is a '70.
As far as the color, its ok, I'm just not a yellow kinda person, plus the paint job is bad and its chipping. They didn't even take the top off to paint it, when you put the top down you can see the factory yellow underneath, and it looks like the color they painted it was lighter as well.
You know I was reading somewhere about the Volkswagen history and I found out the Super Beetle didn't start being made until 1971, so mine was the first year of the super beetle.

You know how the IRS is, they want our money now and we'll get ours when they're ready to give it to us.

I'll check My books out for you , on the ones that cover the Karmann beetles.

I have one excellent book that You really need, it tells You what to look for in a beetle and the author just happens to have bought a Karmann Cabriolet
and it looks great.. then they pull it apart..
and there are rust holes everywhere...

but the book covers just about everything, pulling an engine apart and just about everything else You could think of... also the paint colors etc..
I have only recently looked towards the back of the book , and there is more information.. the book was written and published in the UK..

but it should be available in the US too...

as BFY "bugs for You" helped with the book.. they are in California.

I'll get you the information in the morning as its 10Pm here Friday night..

Thanks for the input, you can e-mail me the book titles directly since I don't check on here that often. I would like to get one that will help me figure out colors and stuff so I can try and get my car back in shape.

I have just heard that some Australian VW owners have VW Birth Certificates that have the incorrect information on them

They haven't had the certificates for a long time...

Many owners who obtained the Birth Certificates years ago
have the correct details on them....

Volkswagen records of air cooled Beetles and Karmann Ghias are now very basic....
If Your car had optional extras they do not know what the codes used back then are...
It will be a very basic Birth Certificate....
I don't believe they are worth the money now.

I agree on that one.
I've seen certificates here with some 3 figure M codes, stating: "cannot be identified".

The model and corresponding engine should be clear for all vw's by the VIN number.

If you do not have any documentation: original colour, build/left factory and country of destination.

Engine number confirmation on the birth certificate is not provided anymore. They say due to data protection reasons.
If you provide a engine number and it is the original engine they will confirm in a separate letter.
