I'm going to be swapping my broken transaxle for a (hopefully) good one. The bad trans is an early 70's BE code and the replacement is an older BA code. I plan to reuse the torque converter from the BE, since it's the only one I have, but when I pulled it off of the shaft the seal looks like it extends farther than the seal on the older trans. Do you know if the torque converters are all the same or are there different dimensions for different years?

I'm guessing they are the same...
although the later converter seal is slightly smaller in the inside diameter [bush]

and the seals are slightly different...
one of My spare gearboxes had a new red seal and it wasn't like the VW ones
but fitted perfectly..
I pulled it out and have kept it..

so i recommend to use a late seal 001 301 083B   [CIP1 & evw has them]

cheers

Lee
