Here is a graph with engine speeds and turbine [inside the torque converter]
speeds..

the Differential ratio is 4.375 to 1...

this was used on 1300 & 1500 engined cars.

4.125 to 1  Differential ratio was also used.. in later 1600 beetles.

A 3 element torque converter is used.

the torque ratio is 2.1 to 1.

stall speed 2000 - 2250 rpm

oil pressure @ 4000rpm is 38 - 52 PSI

Here are the gear ratios for the later models.

Driving range 1          1.26:1
Driving range 2          0.88:1
Driving range L          2.25:1
Reverse range R        3:07:1
Differential ratio        4.125:1

From the same book...

For late model autosticks (with gears ratios as mentioned above and 1584cc), the "Maximum and cruising speed":

Beetle and Super Beetle                   78 mph (125.5 km/h)
Karmann Ghia                                 88 mph (141.6 km/h)

   Hi Jayson

I have that other book too...

it seems that no autosticks ever had the 3.88 final drive the late supers had...??

I was hoping to get a 4.125 gearbox...
but the 2 spares were 68 models and all 4.375...

and I was doing 125KMH a couple of days ago in My beetle...

I don't usually drive that fast plus the limit was 100KMH... lol
but a fellow overtook Me [dangerously] and then sped off...
so, I pressed the accelerator to the floor...
and away I went.... lol..

and My Tachometer isn't  working at present...
I replaced the VDO 8000 rpm tacho I have had in use since 2005
but I found I had a new VDO [made in Australia] tacho in My cupboard so I have installed that
but all the hook up connections are different...
there is a High  and a LOW   plus + and --  plus 5 tumbers... on/off..??

so, I'm still investigating that one .. lol

but it would have interesting to see what revs I was doing at 125 KMH..

My Son said probably 5,500.... but I don't think My engine will go that high????

cheers

LEE

PS: 2.25 to 1 in LOW  ???  Odd that one..???
