I had 3 Constant Velocity Joints on My shelf so I painted them
for clarity to show What they look like.
they are tricky assemblies...
they can come apart in Your hand quite easily
even without trying... lol
but putting them back together can be difficult, even impossible..

but once you have pulled apart a few CV joints and cleaned and reassembled them
and filled them with Lithium based MOLY Grease...

it does get a bit easier...  :D :D

Very Important : the X's must be adjacent to each other as shown..
the narrow piece on one side and the wide piece on the other...

I once did get one CV Joint assembled incorrectly [with the help of a hammer]
installed it onto the axle and gave it to My Son....
He couldn't get the CV Joint to move so He could install it...
I think its still about ... I never could get it apart... :o

I accidently gave an axle to My Son with one CV Joint assembled incorrectly...
I couldn't get it to move but I thought it would move once it is attached to the car etc...
Well, it still wouldn't move, and My Son's engine stopped when he tried to drive it ....
Oddly enough it came apart rather easily when I tried to disassemble it. I found many that when assembled incorrectly were really hard to disassemble as they just jam up in the one position...
I also found it much much easier to assemble them FIRST THEN fill them up with Lithium based grease afterwards. It is just as messy as trying to assemble them when already filled with lithium based Moly grease.  You MUST Use Lithium based MOLY grease which is usually a blackish-purpish color and is very difficult to get off clothes....  The Green grease You see for sale as wheel bearing or chassis grease can be clay based and i wouldn't use it on anything really. Well I do use it on tappet cover gaskets, but not as a lubricant....  Volkswagen recommends Lithium based MOLY grease for everything. It makes wheel bearings, CV joints, front suspension etc all last MUCH MUCH Longer....  it can ever quieten a worn CV JOINT....
