Well, its summer here in Australia
and its just too darn hot to drive an UN air conditioned car...

its been over 40C and mostly around 38C during the day..

Luckily it does drop down to 25C over night Most of the time..
around 2 AM...  so, its a bit late to go driving.. lol

BUT... Summer will NOT last forever..

Just as Winter will NOT last forever in the Northern Hemisphere... lol

I can't wait... lol

Hiya Lee,

I was just reading in this morning's newspaper that we, in the USA, are experiencing what seems to be a trend (I'm guessing that this has something to do with the global warming syndrome) in the weather.  It seems that around this time of the year El Nino, the name given to a warming of ocean waters near the equator, is affecting weather here in the States (and elsewhere?).  This warming of the Pacific causes the weather in the Pacific Northwest of the USA to be warmer and drier while the weather in the Pacific Southwest is wetter and colder.

Temperatures here in Oregon are running from about 4 to 12C.  Usually January and February are our coldest months with temperatures registering below freezing and up to about 4 or 5C.

Frankly, because I have a lot of outside work to do, I'd like it even warmer and drier.   8)

well, I'd like it colder....
although there was snow on the alps early this month
and it has snowed on christmas day years ago
so, odd happenings have always happened...

I'm also told that the Sun is at it closest point to the Earth at the moment..
and it moves about..   [= global warming]??

cheers Mike

Well Lee Here where I live we have winter. I put my car up for the winter. For a few resonsons. One the use salt on the roads to melt the snow and eats car up. For some reson i dont know why? This thing that happens here every year called snow, and we get alot of it. Most of the people forget how to drive in it. lol. Winter is long and cold. I do however like to go out in the garage and start her up once in awail let warm up good slip behind the wheel and think about the next road trip we will soon be taking. We got about 6-8 more weeks of winter and will be pulling her out and back on the road. Your thinking about cooler days, Im thinking of warmmer days.

Bookwus

Hiya Robert,

Oh yeah, I know that routine.

Not with my Bug or Bus - I drive them all through the winter.  I'm lucky in that I live in Oregon's moderate climate and I have a DOT that does not use salt on the roads.  Yay!

But I am a weeny-neck motorcycle rider too.  I like riding in good weather but I pity those yahoos out there in the rain (which we do get a bunch of during the winter).  So the bike sits in the garage for the winter.  But I do start 'er up once a week (at a minimum) and ride it around the neighborhood weather permitting.  That keeps the machine in pretty reasonable shape and keeps the carbs from gumming up (which they really seem to want to do).

Lee,

I'm having the opposite problem. We've had over two feet (nearly a meter) of snow this week. Here's a picture of my bus mid week. The bug is trapped inside the garage behind it. Average temps between 11 to 27 F (-3 to -12 C).

Hiya dave,

It's really been bad back east, hasn't it?  We get bombarded with all these visuals of you folks snowed in.

We got about 16 inches last year and it paralyzed the entire northwest.  I'm thinking that folks back east are a heckuva lot more competent in dealing with heavy snowfall.  How's it been for y'all?

6 inches of snow and they won't even delay school around here, but this has been different. We're pushing 3 feet in a little over a week with more on the way. The problem now is where to put the new snow. Many of the side streets are down to one lane with 4 foot banks on either side. The town I live in has been using backhoes and dump trucks to clear the parking spaces downtown. I'm just hoping for a slow thaw, otherwise the flooding on the Ohio river maybe bad.

PS Sorry Lee, for high jacking this thread. It is interesting though how far apart we are as a community and can still relate to each other so easily through our VW's.

This was my house at Christmas time.  25 inches fell.  I left my bug in the garage for two weeks and let my wife give me a ride to work.  It was also rather chilly outside.  Highs for the day were maybe 10 degrees BELOW zero F.

Hiya Carl,

Man!  That makes our "Arctic Blast" (the local weatherguy's name for the storm) last year look like a cakewalk.  Yeeeps!
