Technical / clutch servo replacement kit?
Last post by bookwus - March 22, 2007, 03:17:54 PM
Hiya Sean,

Ha!  The last time I rebuilt a clutch servo, the kit cost $14 US.  Yeeps!  I wonder if these things are going the way of the late lamented throwout bearing?

Technical / Tried these places?

Cisco,
       Tried this mob?

http://www.bugcity.com/cgi-bin/WebStore/indexNEW.cgi/mi=yes/srchcd=113142055RK

Or Hoffman-speedster in germany? Use google to find their site, it's available in English.

There's a Karmman Ghia place in the US that had them advertised as well. Can't remember the site's name.

Or go to the ebay auction Mike has listed and go for it.

59 US for a piece of kit that was 29 two years ago is a bit rich. www.thesamba.com classifieds usually has a few complete units as well.

I have looked every where for a replacement kit and every place has told me the manufacturer closed down back east. Anybody know where I can purchase one. :(

Hiya Cali,

You are absolutely correct!  Sheesh!  I should have (and did) know better.  I've been wrapped up lately in getting ready to rebuild all three of my 1600s, so I've got 1600 on the brain.

But as long as auto got the message that the 1300 (or the 1200 for that matter) was not offered with an AutoStick (at any time) here in the USA, we're in reasonably good shape.

Thanks for keeping me honest!

Quote from: "bookwus"Anybody in North America out there with an AutoStick (of course in its original configuration) mated up to a D, F, or H series engine?

Sorry I didn't see this one earlier, but yes, I have an Autostick mated up with an H series engine, however it is a 1969 model.  This came as a 1500 SP engine.

Vehicle ID # 119598112

Engine # H5712469

I've since rebuilt the engine, but used the original case to keep the two mated together.

Quote from: "bookwus"For example, I'm guessing that you are located in Europe.  Reason?  All AutoSticks imported to the USA (to the best of my knowledge) were 1600s, either single port or dual port.

Not exactly true, as the USA Autosticks from 1968 and 1969 came with 1500 single port motors, like mine.  Also 1968 USA Autosticks were the first in the United States to have IRS, after 68 all US Beetles came equipped with IRS.

Technical / Easier to do bypass the neutra...
Last post by volkenstein - March 19, 2007, 03:33:35 AM
K-Lime,
Have a look further down the page. There's a topic which starts "Disable VW neutral etc". You can easily bypass the NS switch and it goes from your Ign to starter anyway, just takes a break at the NS switch.

Check the connections first as they may have fallen off somewhere.

Volkenstein.

What I found was a loose sparkplug wire.
