I have the engine & torque converter out of by '69. According to a vw mechanic, my clutch disc needs to be changed. If you've done this before, I'd appreciate your expertise, tips, & the next basic steps before I go further. E.g., is my next step, pull the tranny?? I was thinking I'd need to pull the engine only when I started, but looks like the tranny has to come out as well? Thanks! :?:
to my understanding yes you do have to pull the transmission out, there is like another 'bell housing' that must be removed to be able to get to the disc. you will have to unbolt the axles and the box from the chassis etc and it should drop down( make sure you have jack underneath)
let me know how you go, anything you encounter as i have to replace the clutch disc as well, was going to do it but the transmission was a little tricky since the chassis has been modified(convertible)
I have the clutch out and the disc changed. Turns out you don't have to remove the tranny [I didn't]. You will have to take both tires off to get to the bellhousing bolts, but its not too difficult to reach them. good luck
