Title: desperatley seeking sax......omat
Post by: tomn450 on June 25, 2004, 02:42:40 PM
i have a 1962 ghia convertible with the saxomat auto clutch. as i understand, it was a pre-autostick option that was never offered on US imported VW's. the saxomat is still working, but iam sure it could be adjusted and sericed. Is there anyone who can give me some direction as to where i can find a mechanic who won't look at me as though i have a deformed child, or that limits my options to manual tranny conversion??

i am in los angeles, ca. but i am willing to drive a ways for someone with experience.

any info is greatly appreciated.

Hiya Tom,

Sad to say, it's getting difficult to find anybody who can service an AutoStick, let alone a Saxomat.  Because they were not imported into the USA, your chances of rounding up somebody with experience on a Saxomat are nil or close to it.  However, I'm not going to leave you high and dry.

I would suggest that you give Lenny Copp at West Coast Classics a call.  Lenny restores all manner of VWs and is probably THE best source of information for who to see or where to go.  A Helluva nice guy to boot.  On top of all that, he is a local (Fullerton) for you.  Call him at 714.871.1318
