My Web Pages are being updated continually as i find I've done something wrong???
or added something to My Beetle....
I'm now able to drive it up & down the driveway....
spinning the rear wheels in Low / Reverse and when braking....

So, Its working very well apart from the very large THUMP when I let the gearshift lever go....
I have a spare electronic valve, so the it May stop the thumping...
Hopefully...

Hi mate. I've been looking at your site your car look well nice. One thing I noticed was the removable rear valance is that stock or did you do it yourself? Just wondering cos I own a 68 stick shift as well and i'm sure mine don't do that, it must make removing the engine a hell of a lot easier.
Title: removeable fiberglass rear valance
Post by: 68AutoBug on September 05, 2005, 03:09:59 PM

The fiberlass rear valance is locally made in Australia.
I'm sure someone would be ,aking them in the UK or Europe due to the rust problems over there....   they are just made over here to make taking the engine out so easy....
The last time I took the engine out I left the car sitting with the 4 wheels on the ground....
Safe and easy.... whether You could use a replacemenrt steel part I'm not sure....   Would be worth trying....
Taking the engine out is so easy with one person and standard trolley jack....
Best of Luck

Title: Engine Out again - flexplate rivets loose again - WELDED -
Post by: 68AutoBug on May 19, 2006, 01:15:26 AM

Hi,
Well, that removeable rear valance, has been removed again, and the engine taken out, as the rivets came loose again. They had been loose before and My Son tack welded the plate in 4 spots.. The 4 welds are cracked thru the center, so this time He welded all around the center piece. I reinstalled the engine, and while doing up the 4 torque converter to flexplate bolts, one of the captive nuts attached to the flexplate came loose with a screw half screwed into the nut..
I haven't been able to find anything to fix this yet.. but I'm thinking, otherwise I will have to take the engine out again... complete with torque converter... unless I can get at the nut with the engine out just a little..
I would rather do up the nut and drive the car....
