I have a 69 autostick bug. The engine was stalling at stop lights and running a bit rough with the original carb. The car starts up instantly with my original carb. However, when I dropped in a brand new carb from CIP, it takes quite a while to start, but then runs just great and doesn't stall anymore once its running. Any ideas why the car is hard to start with the new carb, but starts instantly with the old carb? I have swapped the carbs back and forth a couple of times. Either I can start, but run rough with the old carb, or I can run great but start hard with the new carb!
my guess would be a choke problem, are you sure the choke on the new carb is working?
what kind of carby's are the two?

Original Solex 30 PIC and a new Solex/Brosal H30. I will reinstall the new carb and see if the choke opens up correctly. It certainly is shut tight and snug while out of the car.
