Hi Phil,
I have read where the fully automatic transmission from a type 3 has been fitted to a Beetle with little problems...>>
Some say its a very difficult job fitting the wider type 3 auto tranny, to a Beetle, and at least two people in Australia have done it with few problems...
When I find the article, I'll send it to you Phil...
It may be a while as I'm a hospital patient at the moment, in an internet cafe...
and its just NOT the same using someone elses computer !!!:):):)

Title: Fully auto in a beetle
Post by: Dennis Flora on July 29, 2005, 11:21:34 AM
It would take alot of work to fully auto a bug. You see, in the fully auto cars, the engine and trans is held up by a cross member on the front of the engine(rear of the car), which is attached to the body. I would imagine a guy could create mounts on the transmission to attach to the suspensions trans support arms, but it would be a pretty interesting job to take on. I have a full auto that has ring and pinion noise, but otherwise functions great, and your welcome to it, but Im in Northern California (Red Bluff). It's free to anyone who can use it if they can come get it...

Use the search button.  There was a post when I first joined here from a guy who had made the conversion and was sending out instructions to anyone who wanted them.
