Hi there,
Looking for new or "good used" ATF hoses for a 69 Autostick. The hoses I have are now cracked and unusable - they might even be the originals!!
Anyhow, are these easy to find, or must they be made custom, etc. About how much can I be expected to pay, where can I look, etc.
Thanks very much,
PJ
Check out www.classictube.com, they may be able to supply you with the correct hoses, or custom make them for you.
You can take the old hoses and Fittings to any Hydraulic Hose shop and they can make up NEW Hoses for You using Your ends....
Replacement Hoses are No Longer Available in Australia ...

Hiya Machschnell,
Go for Lee's suggestion on this one. No knock on Classic Tube here, it's just that the original fittings or their exact replacements have to be used in fitting in new hoses. That can be a bit tricky the further away you get from the actual operation.
On the other hand if you stroll into your local hydraulics shop with the old ones in hand and describe to the counterman just what it is that you need - you'll get it!
And don't go after used hoses. Basically you'll be right back in the same position you are now. The two lead lines, from the ATF reservoir, and from the ATF pump should cost about $75 to have remanufactured in today's materials - which should last darn near forever.
Hi,
Just to follow up on this thread and a couple of others the seals and hoses for VW semis are actually quite standard items that any good hydraulic hose outlet can supply.
I just took my old seals down to them and got replacements for free (I knew the bloke but the most it would have been was 20 pence) and the same for the hoses, although to be honest you can get these almost anywhere, mine came from a local car spares shop.
I'm on the lookout for a oil/atf pump if anyone has a spare they want to sell me.

Hi Kevin & Mike,
I have just sent You two an email.. I need help with the clutch adjustment.
I have done it 25 times and it still doesn't work.. Can only get into low gear.. 1st & 2nd & reverse crunch.... I have been working on it for 2 afternoons till its too dark & TOO COLD to stay outdoors...
I finally tried screwing the adjuster in 3 turns to see if it made any difference.. it didn't.. I'll try the other direction tomorrow...
also the Clutch arm is not moving far... I think it goes from where I had it to start with- when the servo is activated it is pulled close to the servo, then each time after.. it moves a few mm & then stays there..
I'm wondering whether the arm is supposed to go back about 2 inches or so after it engages [but it isn't engaging] ????
I'll have to think again tomorrow... I've read the manuals and kept measuring everything to no avail... Something IS wrong, whether its just the clutch adjustment.. I don't know...

Hi again Men...
Kevin, I used standard black seals last time, in the original pump, but I have a spare which I pulled apart and its like new inside... No scratches or wear marks anywhere.. Gears like new... so I'm going to put two new seals in it and use it...
My original pump has scores where the gears go round etc...
Now I read somewhere, that You should use red Viton High Temperature oil seals... anyone know anything about these??
I might just use the black ones again... very inexpensive..
[not free though]
cheers

Hi Lee,
I did set mine up myself all to pretty much factory standard setting although I did have to play around with the arm adjusting it to get it just right as my clutch is probably a bit worn.
Also check you have enough vacuum as this may cause a problem, mine started to crunch a lot as the vacuum tank wasn't up to pressure (not sure how to tell exactly but if I changed gear too often, i.e 3 point turn, it crunched like mad...) turns out it was the carb, it wasn't producing enough vacuum as it was knackered but new jets etc sorted it out.
The servo makes a hissing noise, apparently this is normal and mine does it and so far I don't think I've got any probs with it.
I think you are more than half way there, if the arm moves then servo must be doing something so have a fiddle with the control valve too, that might be releasing the clutch too slowly but as I say, getting it to do something, anything! is most of the battle.
Good luck
Kev
