Title: Birth Certificate Question
Post by: NOVA Ghia Owner on October 04, 2005, 03:14:17 PM
Has anyone ever obtained a "birth certificate" for their car from the VW museum?  If so, did it list the autostick as an option?

I recently received the birth certificate for my car and was surprised to see that the AS was not listed as an option.  As far as I can tell, the AS in my car came from the factory.

Hiya Nova,

This is not a definitive answer to your question by any means, but it may provide some context......................

While I have not applied for the factory production information concerning my 1970 AutoStick I have received information from VW regarding another 1970 VW I owned.  This car had a standard manual transmission.

Its production records contained seven pieces of information.  None of that information contained any data about transmissions or options.  I'm thinking that tranmission type may not have been recorded in this format.

Bookwus:

Thanks for the info.  It sounds consistent with the data on the brith certificate.  The only option specified on the certificate was the right hand outside mirror.

Where did you get the production information from?  Is it publicly available?

Hiya Nova,

Looks as though I might have crossed your signals just a bit.  The factory production information I referred to in my last post is the same as a "birth certificate".

15 Euros and a letter of request including your car's VIN sent to

Frau Neefe
Stiftung Automuseum
Diesel Strasse 35
D 38346, Wolfsburg
Germany

will get you the information.  I'm assuming that this is what you did.

Title: VW Birth Certificate

Hi there,

I asked the VW Birth Certificate for my 1971 VW 1302 Automatic twice. The first time was back in 1999

And the last time was in June, 2005

Both documents say that my VW 1302 is a "113 142". As long as I know, 113 means for a 1971 model, a 1302 Super Beetle Export, Left hand drive. 142 means Automatic and US market version. I'm not quite sure about it, but I heard that some time ago.

Best regards,

Hiya Rodrigo,

Thanks for posting the production info.

I find it interesting that the color was "not registered" in 1999 but does appear on your 2005 copy as Kansas Beige.

A question for you................

Did you pay VW for either or both of the info sheets?

Based on what you have, I would say mine is correct then as I have a model 141 042 listed as I have a left hand drive cabriolet.  I am assuming the 042 is an AS designation for the Ghia and that it varies slightly from the 142 for the 1302?

I scanned the birth certificate but could not seem to upload it.[/img]

Hi there,

Nice car! I have also a 1969 1/2 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet type 141, but mine is manual transmission :-(

You might upload the image first in p.e. http://www.imghost.us/ After that, you have to copy the URL of the image.

In the forum you just have to click on "Img", paste the URL, and click again on "Img", So, it will be something like that:

Thanks Rodrigo.

Here goes

Its interesting that my certificate was issued on Sept 27, 2005 - exactly 36 years to the day after my car left the plant in 1969.
