Title: jumping out of gear

any idea why my semi sometimes jumps out of 1st gear? low is fine and 2nd is fine but when i let my foot off the acceleration it pops out but not always? the atf fluid level is ok.

three possiblities,
the fork of 1st 2nd is setting badly,
the selector rail has clearance in the casing,
the bearing of the main shaft is bad
and the main shaft moves laterally,
you need disassembly the gear box.

Hiya Drmuddle,

With respect to Jean who obviously knows what he's talking about, I'd try something a little simpler first.  On the AS bugs I have worked on popping out of first range has not been that uncommon.  All it usually takes to fix it is to reposition the shifter plate a little bit toward the rear of the car.  I would at least give that a try before you get into the tranny itself.

Nick has to repair its gear box. it would be a good idea if he said to us what he found  :lol:
