Title: Your Gearstick exposed

All,
   Dismantled gearstick for your enjoyment...

About this shot....

Check out the dodgy contact electrical connection. While thoroughly clamped, it prevents the little isolation washer coming off.

And just remember, the gap between the contact and top section of the gearstick is around .016 inch, and if the spring is knackered it's real easy to have your control valve solenoid firing all the time....

Title: Replacement contact...

All,
Got a new contact and was grossly disappointed with the fit. It's was short in diameter of the old one as well as much taller and I decided it would rattle around a lot.

Here's a shot of the new, the old and what I whipped up in the lathe..

So I soldered it all together using the small pilers as a heatsink and the green cap holds water for a fast quench to make sure the wire doesn't melt.....

Lastly here's a shot of the contact in the stick prior to putting the two halves back together. Adjusted it up and tested it with a spare battery and test light and all is well.

Will it last? Probably, but my spacer is made from industrial heat resistant nylon so I reckon I will have to adjust it a bit more frequently as the normal spacer is made of bakelite.
