anybody here has tried pulling out the dual oil pump body from the crankcase?
my Bentley's VW Official Service Manual refers to an extractor to be used to remove the oil pump.
As I don't have that particular extractor and doubt if I could buy them, I need an alternative or improvised way of removing the pump.
I've already removed all the other bits (cover, gears & plate). It's just the oil pump housing that I'm having dificulty.
I'm doing this to replace all the gaskets since my engine is already out.
thanks

Dennis,
Depends on what sealer the PO/VW has used.
Have a careful look at whether the oil pump body has some places that overlap on the crankcase. You may be able to get some sort of prying tool behind the pump.
What you can do is loosen the crankcase nuts along the line of the oil pump, then hook a crowfoot pry bar (or somesuch) behind either the ATF pump backing plate (the ATF pump/plate may come off...) or behind the oil pump body.
BE GENTLE....if it resists...don't continue.
A guy on Aus Ebay makes the tool, relatively cheap, or try George at CVD (www.classicveedub.com.au) for an EMPI knockoff in his monthly specials section - $9.99 plus postage...
Enjoy

Hi Volkenstein,
I actually got the Empi Oil puller from George this afternoon. I thought this tool was not available else where.
I just had to shorten one side of the "T" pin to fit into the 2 holes on the side of the oil pump body. It's out now.
Thanks

Hi Dennis,
I have had My original pump out a few times...
and have replaced it with an as new used pump...
I've never had any problems with them...
I broke one of the very small screws off...
and have replaced them with Stainless steel allen headed ones.
I had a bit of trouble with the gaskets with large holes...
as all the books say NOT to use any gasket cement...
But I finally had to to keep the gaskets with large holes
onto the very small screws...
Anyway.. no leaks... thats the main thing...
cheers
