think it would be better for me to swap out my auto for a manuel?
its really getting to hard and expensive for me to keep trying to find something new every week for this tranny, im in college and need a more reliable car. how hard would it be to swap this thing out?
Well, let's see. You would need:
Oil pump
transmission
clutch disc
clutch plate
flywheel
pedals
clutch cable
shifter
shift rod
shift rod bushing (might as well, since you have it out already)
reverse lock out plate (aka stop plate)
shift rod coupler
bowden tube
bowden tube bracket
Oh, and, hope your frame has the clutch cable tube. If not, you'll have to install one, or, look into a hydraulic set up.
So, that is the parts you need. Other than the clutch tube issue, it's pretty straight forward.
Hi,
the clutch tube that goes into the rear end of the tunnel is a problem...
My Son used a 1968 Autostick chassis, as they are the only standard Beetle chassis in Australia with IRS excepting our last 1976 Beetle... which wasn't a Super..
He has welded it in a few times.... and the car has never been registered for the road...
I have seen where people cut open the tunnel to weld the clutch tube in properly...
there was talk years ago that every beetle chassis had the clutch tube installed... but this has proven to be untrue....
