Title: Oil Pumps, where to get them...
Post by: Dennis Flora on August 31, 2006, 07:14:15 PM
Who sells new oil pumps for the autostick, I have a 1974 1600 DP on my Trike, and all is well, but I was thinkin bout rebuilding my engine someday, but I cant seem to find an oil pump for it anywhere. Do we just have to keep using old one's ?  Dennis

Dennis,
Cip1 reco's them on an exchange basis. On The Samba, a guy in Abilene had a NOS plate and ATF half, but I couldn't see whether he had the driving shaft as well.

I bought a used one off The Samba and am reco'ing it (with new seals, thanks Lee).

On Shoptalkforums, "Marc" posted that there are actually three types of A/S pump. Ones like Lee's used on 6mm oil pump stud engines, the normal 8mm stud flat cam pump and one for later engines. So it can be a bit of a pitfall if you buy the wrong pump for your cam. I'll see if I can find that post and paste the link.

Thanks !!!  Mine is fine, so there's no hurry, I would just like to start off fresh when I rebuild the engine someday. Thought i'd compile the weird stuff first, and the easy stuff later. Dennis
Title: The info on pumps.

Dennis,
The reply by Marc said the three different oil pumps are for small gallery "H" series blocks with flat cams, large gallery "H" and early 1600 TP type blocks with flat cams and then later models with dished cam.

The ATF pump side remained the same throughout.

Given that a lot of aftermarket cams are flat faced, the second pump would be a good choice to buy if the seller knows it came from say a 69/70 model.

Enjoy

Well, there's nothing wrong with my pumps, they work just fine, the car was a 1974, but has an aftermaket mexican case, so who knows what it is, but it is dual relief. It also has 8mm cyl studs with case savers... I think to be safe with my choice, I will just wait till I take the engine apart for the rebuild, and determine what I have exactly. Thanks !!!
