I have an frustrating problem with the 69 AS bug I am trying to return to service. The clutch disk is stuck to its mating surface.
I have the car on jack stands.
I jumped the battery (+) directly to terminal 15 on the control valve (all wires removed). I put a long jumper on terminal 31. I started
the car, crawled under the car, touched the 31 wire to ground and the servo moved the clutch arm its full travel. I then attached the wire to ground and then tried to shift it into 2nd. No go!!!
I can get it into 2 gear.
The only way I have thought of solving this problem, short of pulling the engine, is to run the engine fast with the trans in 2nd , jumping the servo into the shift position, and then slamming on the brakes.
Do you think this will work? Any other ideas? Thanks, Vince

You're on the right track I reckon, but try this gentler idea first.
Accelerate say in R1, rev it out then whip your foot off the throttle. At the same time, fire the solenoid by touching the gearstick as it's decelerating a few times.

This had happened to mine, the reason I am rebuilding the trans. I had to chisel the plate of the turbine shaft with a flat scrapper and then have the TS and PP re-faced due to the corrosion damage as new ones are just not available. Thankfully I can get discs from Sachs.

I haven't had that experience..
plus the clutch plate is really sealed in the gearbox..
so how does moisture get in there?

Do you live in a country where for six months of the year the local council spreads layers of rock salt on wet roads every night that then gets sprayed up inside your car and sucked into the trans by the cooling air requirements of the torque converter? The lining of the clutch absorbs the salt laden water and this makes the two metal surfaces rust. When you lay the car up for the winter, the clutch rusts solid to each surface and refuses to separate. I HAVE TO EMIGRATE WHEN THIS CAR IS FINISHED!
Well I was able to free the stuck clutch disc.
The engine was freshly tuned. All components of the shifting system were working properly. But it would not go into any gear while sitting on the ground. But while working on it I had discovered that on jack stands I could to get it into 2nd range (up and to the right) because the torque converter drag was spinning the trans enough,and hence the wheels, that it would go into gear ie. clutchless shifting.
So, I ran a long wire with alligator clips between the battery ground strap and a switch setting on the front seat. I ran a second similar long wire from the solenoid valve #31 terminal to the switch.
I raised the rear end off the ground, one side on a jack stand and the other on a floor jack. Started the engine.With the engine idling, I put it into 2nd range (up and to the right).
I then applied the emergency brake and lowered the car to the ground. Got in, released the emergency brake, pressed drown the accelerator pedal, got up some speed, closed the switch and the disc popped loose!! I immediately could shift into any gear.
I am a very happy camper!!
