Title: Poor accelleration
Post by: Autostick73 on February 02, 2007, 11:39:08 PM
Hi,
I am the new owner of a 73 AS and I need some help.  I have owned a total of 4 beetles, this is the first autostick and I am having a little trouble.  Well first of all the car will idle just fine when not in gear, but when I put it in gear or am at a light with it in gear it tries to stall or dies.   The weather here in Ohio has been very cold in the mornings and evenings, this is when I drive the car the most.  I really do like the autostick but just want it to be right.
Thanks,
Jeremy

The first thing I would check is your idle speed once the motor is fully warmed up.  If it's too low, any Beetle will want to stall out.  The idle should be ~900RPMs.

What I found was a loose sparkplug wire.
