Well, the job is done. My friend just finished putting his new motor in his AS Ghia. A real monster too. 2275, full flow, dual 44mm carbs, electronic ignition, the whole 9 yards. And yes, it is REALLY fast. So, for those of you that would like some more details, here goes.
First, the whole AS system was separated from the motor. To get this system working on it's own, we started with the carb vac. Drilling a port in the one of the new carbs was easy. There was no real drilled, just removed a plug and tapped in a fitting.
Next up was the vac that normally comes from the intakes. Before taking things apart, he put a vac gauge on the intake line to see how much was being pulled. With that info, we mounted up a 12V vac pump with a rating close to what the original was. When the ignition is in the on position, the pump kicks over to provide a constant vac.
Finally, and the hardest one, was the ATF pump. Again, we measures out the max pressure on the original system and found that 42 PSI was just about right. The bad news - we couldn't find a 12V continuous duty pump that could do it. In the end, he went for a combo setup that he put together himself. A 12V motor (radiator fan motor from a big Ford truck) on a pulley system in line with the ATF pump. He did a neat little trick so that the belt is the same as the one used for the generator/fan and has an automatic tensioning system.
Everything seems to be working just great. Shifts are very smooth, and, he can really haul some a$$.

From what I understand, the trans can handle up to about 150HP before you really need to beef it up. Mind you, that doesn't mean you can dump it in gear and all the other stuff that would normally tear up a trans.

I think your friends main worry is the disc and pressure plate longevity with that much grunt up back of it!.
Is it an all stock trans? Or has the TC been stall speed modified?
