Hi there!
I can shift my car into gear when the key is in the ready position, but the engine isn't running. I can hear the control valve engage. But, once the car has been started I can't shift into gear. This is likely a leak or a bad servo, yes? How can I tell what the problem is? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Is there a how-to out there that shows how to replace the clutch servo diaphram?
:idea: It seems like an easy problem to resolve with. You have to check all the contacts at the electric control valve, located to the left corner on the engine compartment. Also, you have to check and clean all the contacts at the ignition coil. Good luck.
The electrical I would think is fine because I am hearing the valve make that weird noise when I move the stick. The car just won't go into gear while the engine is running. I am thinking a vaccum leak has occurred somewhere in the system. I am just not sure where. Can anyone offer some advice as to how to chase down a leak?
Have you check the vacuum tank?
A commend problem is rust behind the clamp ring where you fasten the tank to the bracket, and at the bottom of the tank . The vacuum pipe from the tank have also tendency to getting rotten.
Have you tried to adjust the valve? If it needs adjusting and doesn't lift the clutch properly, it might be enough to change gear when the engine isn't running, but when the engine is running the clutch needs to be completely lifted.
try to adjust it maximum both ways, but remeber where it was in the first place.

I had a problem like that on my car it turned out to be the wire that runs from the gear stick to valve it had come apart so just reconnected and it went into gear .

What ive done is cut an access hole in the back cargo area.now i can see if the clutch arm is moving. if it is you need a clutch adjustment or a new clutch.also the clutch adjustment is easier from this access. if the arm isnt moving just bactrack through the system. servo, vaccum, control,and electrical. also its a snap to loose and tighten the clutch arm at the access hole. :)

:wink: you can cover the hole if your an owner of a high dollar ghia. if you ever have to adjust your clutch, you will consider it now.
the way i found out i had a leak in the servo was take the hose that joins the servo to the vacuem clutch off at the clutch end and blow down it, it should be like blowing into a balloon if it is east to blow in the leak is between there and the servo.
