Title: Full-flow oil filters
Post by: dmc on December 18, 2003, 01:26:50 AM
Ok, I've got a 74 ghia AS engine for my 70 AS beetle.  Now I have seen these full flow oil filter kits for engines and I was wondering if anyone knew if these would work on the AS engine?  I am aware of the ATF parts on the pump and am not sure if it can be worked around.  I like the idea of filtering the oil thru a standard screw on filter in addition to the original filter basket.  I am also thinkin of adding a 1 1/2 qt. oil sump  just to have more oil in the engine.

I'm trying to figure out a way also and I thought of this: You could have the outlet to the filter where the return is on a traditional full-flow set up is and use something like this: http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=ECO0027&cartid=1215200394649211 for the return back to the engine.

I hope you could understand what I'm trying to say because I don't really know how to describe it.

I have also seen a sump filter from CB Performance that uses a small motorcycle oil filter but I don't have any experience with these so I don't know how well they work.

Dean,
Yes, I have just bought one of the extra sumps from the US that has a small motorcycle filter in it.. You can also get paper filters to fit in the sump.  I haven't installed Mine as yet.. still working on restoring it...
Its the easiest alternative I can think of...
